Lovely Rituals and Winter Skin Care

It is freezing outside, at least where I live. The temperature scale shows -13c at the moment I’m writing. We have very sunny and white winter season this year in Austria and I try to enjoy every moment of it. My skin unfortunately not always. So I would like to share with you a few tips how to protect your skin using some carrier and essential oils combined together. rosmary1

First product you should have in your bathroom during winter season is Shea butter. It is great when it comes to protection of your skin and lips. Before you go for a walk when there are minus temperatures outside you should always think about putting some on your face. It is also great for small children because the fat stays long on the surface of the skin and protects it. Now Shea butter doesn’t always has a pleasant smell if it is natural product, so essential oils are perfect to give a nice finish touch and a double boost for your skin. All you need is a small amount of Shea and 1-2 drops of following essential oils for a nice winter walk: Cedarwood, Frankincense, Lavender, Tee tree or Myrrh.

After a long day you should think about your skin in the evening. The changing temperatures when you work inside a building with dry hot air and walking outside in to the difference of more than 20 degrees down is not friendly at all. My rituals for that are quite simple. I wash my face with warm to hot water and rinse it with a natural cognac sponge. After that I spray homemade Face water (100ml water + 5 drops Wild lLvender, 3 drops Lemon) and put some coconut or jojoba oil with one of skin friendly EO. I really like Peace and Calming II blend or Wild Lavender in the evening. Don’t forget to open a window for 5 min before you enter the room for sleep and switch your diffuser on together with radiator. I find that Pine is a great oil to defuse for winter nights. It gives you a pleasant feeling of the forest smell and reminds of your walks in the nature. I also love to put few drops of Lemon or Orange to my evening herbal tea for great taste and a little bit of sunny spice. img_4142

Don’t forget your hair and lips. For hair it is always good to massage 3-4 drops of your favourite essential oil right in to the tips before you leave home. That is not only a stimulation but also very pleasant way to keep them healthy through extreme temperature changes. I normally put Shea butter quit often on my lips and I experienced that when you have dry lips and open skin it heals faster. Try putting a drop of Myrrh or Wild Lavender on it and let it stay for a minute. Then apply Shea butter and repeat firs step again. You can do it before you go to sleep and you will see the results in the morning.

If you were too long outside you should take a hot bath to keep you warm during the day or getting ready for good night sleep. Always check twice the abilities of oil, which you put in to the bath depending on time of the day you are taking it. Some oils will energise and give you a kick and some will be great for relaxation and calming down. Also be careful with “hot” oils like Peppermint, Sage, Thyme or Clove because they can irritate your skin in combination with hot water. And remember that EO are lighter then water so you should mix them with salt or bath oil before you put them in. cupoftee

After a hot bath is nothing better than a DIY body spray (water + EO) and nice combination of coconut or almond oils to keep the skin protected and silky. Last but not least… Now you can apply the “hot” oils into your feet like Oregano or the ones I talked about before and put some warm socks. That’s it! You will be able to make your winter time cosy, full of great smells and warm dreams without using 20 different products. Stay simple, chose your favourite winter smells and let them do all the job for your skin and body. With small rituals and right information you can avoid the problems which cold weather brings and leave more time for enjoying!

I hope you enjoys some of this information and I would be glad if you leave a comment. How to avoid catching cold in winter

IMU: Its finally real winter around Europe! White snow and frosty weather is bringing more people to enjoy their walks outside compared to the rainy dark days we’ve been seeing earlier. Unfortunately changing temperatures, dry air indoors and not enough sun make our immune system work a little less well as in it would in the summer. Also, winter season is unfortunately well known as the best time of the year to catch a cold. We would like to share our experience with essential oils, which could prevent most of winter sneezes, and to help the body fight the symptoms if they are already there.

MU Thirst thing that comes to my mind when I hear someone complaining about a cold? THIEVES!!! This amazing oil blend contains Rosemary, Lemon, Cinnamon bark, Clove and Eucalyptus radiata essential oils and has its own legend which comes from 15th century.

IU According to the story in the 15th century four thieves were robbing victims of the plague without catching the disease them selves. Eventually they were caught and sentenced to death, however in exchange to their lives they revealed their secret – a blend of aromatic botanicals such as clove and rosemary and methods of extractions that kept them healthy in the deadly times. Thieves is a blend inspired by this story and the recipe used by the 15th century perfumers.

MU I tried it quite often and I can tell from my experience that one drop under your tongue when I start to feel the first signs of cold can strongly impact your body’s reaction to surrounding viruses. Ok it might be not the best thing you’ve tasted… but if you dilute it with a spoon of honey or put it in a glass of warm vegetable milk it is not as strong as it were pure. I actually got so used to the taste of it that I never dilute this oil anymore and sometimes even forget to tell my friends they should be prepared for small explosion of tastes and scents…

At every big project I play at as a musician there is always a person who’d catch a cold. And it has become a tradition for them to come and ask me if I have Thieves with me. Most of the time it helps quickly if the person is not already deeply ill. But it can also sooth the throat pain and open a blocked nose if you are already at a later stage.

IU I tend to rub a drop or two on each foot before leaving home prophylactically during the cold season – especially if visiting cold Lithuanian winter. It is a safe place to apply the oil, it warms up my feet nicely and also works as a shoe purifier. However if I do come back from the cold feeling frozen, on the edge of becoming sick, I’d brew myself a cup of tea or just take a cup of warm water and mix in a drop of honey and a drop of thieves or peppermint to ease the breath. When the water is warm the smell tends to amplify so I inhale the vapour for a few minutes and then have an essential oil infused hot drink to warm up the body.

MU second most important oil for me in winter is Thyme. It has a spicy, warm, herbaceous aroma and reminds me of sunny summer days. When I was little we used to pick fresh thyme and dry it for winter. This plant was known in ancient times as a medicinal herb and it supports the immune, respiratory, digestive, nervous, and other body systems. I put it diluted on my chest and feet for the night and wear something warm if I don’t feel fit. And I love it on my ear tips (be careful not to put inside the ear though) when I have to leave home shortly after the shower. 16106951_10154332678127198_13432110_o

IU After shower or after a long bath is my favourite time to apply hot oils on the feet. The pores are open and a drop of thyme, oregano or cinnamon feel and smell amazing and give me feeling of confidence and warmth in winter. Generally oils are fantastic after soaking in the water as it makes them stronger but I’d use something lighter as eucalyptus or citrus with the carrier oil for the whole body.

MU Use a diffuser for cleaning the air at home. Dry air is one of the biggest problems in winter. You need the radiators to stay warm, but it’s an enemy number one for your nose and skin. Be sure to let the fresh air in even for short periods of time at least a few times a day. Diffusing Thieves or any other essential oils and blends which have the ability to prevent traffic of different bacteria and viruses in your living room. It can also help your body to support the immune system natural way.

IU Lastly, I got into a habit of having Inner Defence with me, it’s been very useful when traveling. It’s an easier alternative when packing in a rush as the capsule is already pre made and contains very potent essential oils.

MU I normally try to drink more fresh vegetable and fruit juices adding a few drops of essential oils into them. The reason is very simple: in winter I never eat enough greens in raw form because it is a cold meal and juicing helps me consume large amounts of vitamins and minerals which essential for your immune system. Adding different combinations of oils to these juices is the easiest way to support your body. Keep it green on the inside when it’s white outside! 15874627_1262149927207065_3055024130455180013_o

New Year and New Goals

Many of us think about personal changes and new chances when we are in the firs week of January. This happens from year to year but most of our wishes and promises to our selves stays unfulfilled. This mostly happens because we want the changes and results to come fast so we start to push ourselves and the ones we love to some utopian idea or view. It causes stress and frustration almost every time and then we drop it and feel disappointed that we couldn’t reach the goal. We feel even worse when others who also began the changes are doing well and speaks about it loud and proud. Funny thing is we do it over and over again every year without stopping and asking our selves why we are failing. There are always two easy answers for that. Basically there are people who blame themselves or those who blame the environment. But easy answers never solve complicated questions for example why did I have decided to reach that goal in the first place and how would that goal make me happier, stronger or just healthier in everyday life. Am I doing this for myself or I am trying to become someone else entirely because I don’t appreciate me as individual? Am I ready to make the changes and to except the gifts of life or do I try to run away from new inspirations by setting unrealistic goals and falling into self-pity when it doesn’t work. These are the questions which can help to make a new year’s resolution or at least encourage to think about it before deciding what the goal actually means to you and your environment.

Last year I have decided I wanted to learn as much as my time allows me about the essential oils and there were months when I haven’t read a line about it but then I was still using them and valuing the results which were sometimes very surprising or also quit questionable. Today I’m still learning about it and the goal has transformed into journey which has been full of new experiences and wisdom. I still feel that there are so much information to learn but I have seen how sceptic people change their minds about the oils and how different the stories can sound. Most of them are very positive and people actually begin to ask about the oils even if only few months ago they were blocking the information as some marketing trick. I have never had a goal just to make people buy the product. I was always trying rather to help them on some health struggles which everyone has and showing the alternative choices. The feedback can take some time but when it comes in a positive way back to you there is no greater feeling then one that you know you helped someone.

img_4103Speaking about gifts and New Year resolutions… Newly I discovered Myrrh essential oil which is one of the oldest products used in human history. Today I read that it was mentioned 152 in a bible but the story goes way longer and one has look at the ancient Egypt to learn the old sources. Today’s scientific researches show amazing results about this oil and it explains a lot about why it was valued more than gold thousands of years earlier. My goal for January is to use it for my face skin and to see how it works. I read quit a lot about its power of healing wounds and anti-ageing qualities so I am looking forward how it will work for my skin. There is very nice and informative article for those of you who wants to learn more about this oil which you can read online: https://thetruthaboutcancer.com/myrrh-essential-oil/ .

Small and pleasurable goals can transform into something bigger when you enjoy your journey. One can have many of them and making the small changes will lead you to bigger ones which you have to follow in your tempo and only the way which suits for you.
